vow of
poverty
to pam
here i hang
between two thieves
one who, in bitterness, whispers
"how can you ever understand-
you who have no worries"
the other
a longing - such a longing
that also whispers
"what i would give -
i would but cannot"
it is here in dailyness
where
bread torn is sign
pointing to this place
where i hang
solid against the wait of wood
to let a greater love than mine
feed those
i cannot

What Could be Called Singing
Lessons for the Soul
if
you would learn
how to sing
begin at the beginning
practice the scales
breathing in and out
more practice
learn how to listen
to perfect pitch
with emotion
live the notes
until they live on their own
discipline is everything
when you do practice
"sing an A with an attitude"
until the words sing themselves
in your head
lastly
learn how to read between the lines and
spaces
discover the voice
in what is missing there
